What we do
We write plain-English guides to popular GCSE History topics in England. Each guide gives you the key facts in order, the arguments historians and examiners care about, and tips on how to use them in exam answers.
We check facts against museum, archive and exam board sources, such as The National Archives education service, Imperial War Museums, Royal Museums Greenwich and the exam boards' own specifications. Where historians disagree about numbers, like casualty figures, we say so and give a range.
If you spot a mistake, please let us know.
The history of this address
ilovehistory.co.uk was first used by a history teacher in England for a revision site that ran from about 2005 to 2015. It had lesson pages for different year groups, GCSE revision pages and a blog about trips and projects. Other history sites linked to it as a useful revision resource, including lists of revision websites and pages about the Somme and the USA in the 1920s.
That site closed in 2015. The address was later registered again, and I Love History was built on it in 2026. It's a new site with new writing. We are not connected to the original author or the schools they worked at, and we haven't copied their pages.
The old pages are still linked from around the web, so some of the best-known addresses now have new pages on the same topic. The address of the old lesson on Douglas Haig has our new source investigation on Haig and the Somme, and the old Elizabeth blog address has Elizabeth I after 1588. Three old download links now give you new worksheets on the same topics. Other old addresses take you to the closest new guide: the old Elizabeth I page, for example, opens our Elizabeth I guide.
